The Pain Management intersession course is a 3 day course at the end of which students will be able to: 

State the principles of pain management, IASP definition of pain and prevalence of pain    

Describe the physiology of pain

Discuss the link between genetic variability and clinical variability in pain 

Discuss the pharmacology of analgesic drugs including indications, adverse reactions and monitoring relief 

Discuss the assessment and monitoring of pain including pain intensity measures and qualitative assessment of pain

Discuss the psychological aspects of pain and pain management

Discuss management of acute pain

Discuss management of chronic pain

Discuss management in special groups e.g. children, obstetric patients 

Attendance in this course is compulsory
